Daniel Craig appears set to reprise his role as legendary secret agent James Bond in two more films.
Despite the actor stating that he’d rather ‘slash my wrists’ than play 007 in another movie, film insiders are now reporting the 49-year old actor is close to signing a two-film deal that’ll see him back in the 007 tuxedo.
“There was plenty of talk about who would be the next Bond but Barbara has managed to talk Daniel into two more films,” an insider told the Sun.
“He is loved by audiences around the world and has driven a real resurgence for the movies at the box office, so bosses knew they couldn’t lose him just yet.”
Having now played Bond in four films, from Casino Royale to 2015’s Spectre, Craig will tie original 007 Sean Connery for six films in the Eon Productions series, behind only recently passed Roger Moore on seven.
Craig has played Bond in four films so far – Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre – with the rumoured deal set to take him to six films in total. Roger Moore currently holds the record for most Bond films, as he played the agent seven times between 1973 and 1985.
Skyfall appeared to be the last film for Daniel Craig in the James Bond series; despite grossing over $1 billion USD lacklustre reviews and a tired looking Craig made it seem like the film would be the end for his version of the character, with many speculating a new fresh face to be cast in the role.
Many industry insiders speculated that the time may have come for a non-white James Bond, believing that English actor Idris Elba being a perfect fit for the role.
Film fans on IMDB page have tentatively confirmed Craig as the only cast member for Bond 25 in 2019, with speculative rumours placing the title as Shatterhand. The final movie has apparently already been planned out as well, with a remake of George Lazenby’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to be made with what can only be assumed to be an emotional ending to Craig’s time in the role.
“The script is nearly ready for the 25th film, so there is no time to waste on getting Daniel locked in,” the source added. “But the deal is almost done and the idea of returning to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service for the 26th movie is really exciting.” “The film sees James get married, only for his wife to be killed, so it would be an explosive way to end his reign as 007.”
Will Craig suit up two more times for adventures filled with guns, girls and grenades? It’s certainly looking that way Bond fans! I guess you really shouldn’t ever say never again! (Thanks Justin Bieb-sorry James Bond).
