Fairfax Media are reporting that after nearly 3 years of turmoil, James Hird has finally been giving his walking papers.
Following the clubs pathetic 112-point loss to Adelaide the Essendon board met to discuss the clubs ongoing direction. They have apparently decided Hird will be cut loose, even with a year extra on his contract.
Hird will be replaced by an interim coach, likely one of the current assistants. Club champion and ex-coach Mark Harvey will apparently not be the replacement.
The club and Hird have been said to reached an agreement for settlement on Hird’s final year: he will be likely paid close to $750,000 to walk away from the club.
Not a bad redundancy fee.
